MSI K7N2 Benchmark results
Firingsquad.com takes the K7N2 for a spin and bechmark test: "The Unreal Tournament 2003 demo is unique because it runs two different benchmarks, each designed to stress a different system component. The ‘flyby’ demo is an effective measure of video card performance, which is why each platform is evenly matched at 1600x1200. On the other hand, the ‘botmatch’ demo does a better job at taxing the platform as a whole. Even through 1600x1200, the nForce2 systems outperform the KT400 board.

Performance: The K7N2 is able to contend with ASUS’ flagship A7N8X Deluxe, and that speaks volumes about the time MSI has spent optimizing the board for performance. It is priced below $100 and performs better than a KT400 board, what more could we ask for?

MSI 648 Max compared to rivals
Tomshardware.com compares the 648 Max to its competitors and concludes:
"In the benchmarks, it is mostly Elitegroup and MSI that dominate. Elitegroup has a reason to celebrate, because the board is respectably equipped and could easily be counted among the most attractive in terms of price. MSI struts its stuff and equips the 648 Max with Gigabit Ethernet and Bluetooth interface, with the attitude 'the sooner the better'."

Geforce FX unveiled by Nvidia
C-Net gives us an update on the current status of the new FX nvidia GPU: "The GeForce FX will also improve PCs' capabilities to create realistic graphics more quickly, said Dan Vivola, vice president of marketing at Nvidia. The chip can render graphics as much as four times faster than Nvidia's current GeForce4 Ti 4600 processor."

A more in-depth view comes from IGN Gear: "Early claims by the company claimed up to 8X anti-aliasing (AA) -- 9700 cards max out at 6X AA -- with "no hit in performance," meaning that frame rates didn't dropped. When I read that I took it as meaning that there was a frame rate drop but that it was acceptable.
During a conversation with the company I discovered that, though they couldn't describe actual benchmarks, the typical drop was about one frame per second when changing from No AA to 8AA. Get that? The one frame drop wasn't from, say No AA to 2X AA or 6X AA to 8X AA. It was from none to all. Again, we'll have to wait for a reference card for some real world benches, but I would describe their position as extremely confident on the matter.

Shuttle SS51G impresses reviewers...
As lots of websites have reviewed Shuttle's new P4 barebone system, I have tried to bring together some opinions of the reviewers.

Digit-life.com has taken apart this new machine to have a look both on the inside and the exterior of the case: "The thermal efficiency of this solution is so high that the CPU's temperature (measured with the built-in sensor of the Pentium 4) doesn't exceed 60°C even though we ran games for a quite long time, and the system temperature (measured with the board's sensor) is just 40°C. (The measurements were taken with the integrated video used and with the cover closed.) It's especially important that this thermal mode is achieved at the fan's speed of 2000 rpm. We couldn't measure the noise level, but I must say that the fan makes much less noise than any other in our lab and it was "outrun" by the video card cooler. Considering that it's possible to set a processor's temperature at which the fan is to speed up, this cooling solution makes a good showing."

Whiningdog.net assembles one and is instantly stunned: "What can I say - I really like this system. Let me change that. I love it. If it weren't for the fact that I already have a dual CPU setup, I would make this my main system. If I had not already made an HTPC with the gBOX, I probably would have used the SS51G as my HTPC too! The system is a breeze to set up and configure. It's a pleasure to operate and the case is simple in design and elegant in functionality. All the ports are easily accessible and the system includes almost everything you'll ever need from a PC. For the serious gamer, you'll want to upgrade the system by adding an AGP video card. However for most regular business/SOHO users, the on board video is good enough. And with the I.C.E Heatpipe technology, you'll find that the SS51G is incredibly silent."

Tomshardware.com compares the system to full-ATX towers: "Ultimately, this is an outstanding product that has room for further development (optimized air flow, new designs). Some critics' old argument that mini PCs aren't at the same performance level as the big tower PCs has been deflated with this test system. What's left is a price tag of just under $400 - a lot of money for a barebones PC without components, but not too much for an individual system to steal the limelight from any hulking tower. As is the case in real life - a beautiful exterior with an innovative concept comes at a price. It's time to stop selling PC systems on the market based on the "price" argument.

Computer Magazine checks out the MSI G4 Ti4400-VTD
Computer Magazine has tested 31 different brands of vga cards this month, the MSI G4 Ti4400-VTD came out as one of the best, both on quality, features and price. As the magazine is in dutch i have not translated the following quotes but left them in their original form.

MSI G4Ti4600-VTD is a winner!
If you're looking for the biggest, baddest, and fastest graphics card on the planet, look no further than NVIDIA Ti4600 series. PCStats has reviewed MSI's take on this blazingly quick chip:

"The card handled every game we threw at it with ease and speed, be it from the benchmarking suite or games such as Counter Strike, RTCW, Jedi Knight II, etc. The games even run fast with AA enabled which is change for most of us! It's pretty obvious that MSI are targeting the gamer more then anyone else. Bundled with an excellent software package that includes three full version games, seven demo's and full VIVO capabilities, there's a whole lot of multimedia goodies with this card to keep just about anyone busy with for some time to come.

One thing is for sure though, with a Ti4600 you need a fast processor to fully max it out. During testing we noticed that unless AA was enabled, almost all our tests were CPU limited, even with an AthlonXP 2000+! If you want to use a Ti4600, make sure the rest of your hardware is up to the task or otherwise a really good card will just be going to waste. If you're in the market for a new videocard, look no further then the MSI G4Ti4600-VTD! It has the power to satisfy your hungriest gaming needs no problem!

Intel ships Celeron 1.7Ghz at socket 478
Tomshardware.com shows us a test performed on the newest celeron processor, now shipping in the small 478 socket. They have adapted their old willamette core (0.18µm) and produced a cheap and attractive budget CPU that is up to speed with current technologies.

"By adopting the Celeron as a member of the Pentium 4 family, it can now make use of the installed base and even help to increase the number of Socket 478 systems that are sold. While the Celeron cannot keep apace with its older brother or the Duron at the same clock speeds, it has to run much faster by default - so it not only offers fast performance, but it fits perfectly into Intel's "clock speed sells" strategy. In the end, it seems to work out: The Celeron Willamette 1.7 GHz is currently the fastest budget CPU."

Intel 845E and 845G
Tomshardware.com has reviewed the latest chipsets from intel 845E and 845G. He was especially impressed by the performance of the 845G chipset with DDR 333 support, comparing it to the VIA P4X333 that is still not officially supported as VIA lacks the necessary P4-bus license and the lawsuit between Intel and VIA remains.

"Clearly, i845G has its attractions. Its DDR333 support makes it pretty much as fast as VIA's "semi-legal" P4X333 chipset and motherboard makers don't have to fear lawsuits for using i845G. Compared to i850E running the officially supported PC800 RDRAM, it makes a very good figure as well. Only i850E with PC1066 RDRAM is still able to outscore Intel's latest and greatest DDR-chipset fore Pentium 4."

Computer Totaal NL tests Spire Coolers
Computer Totaal NL has tested the new Spire coolers.

The Spire SuperRock (5T208B1H3T) was awarded the best price/quality. Good cooling performance and its sharp price makes this an ideal PIII or AMD cooler, as stated by the magazine.

Also an award for the Spire Icestream (9T207B1H3G), a Socket478 (P4) cooler. The tests concluded this cooler has the lowest rise in temperature (under 20°C) for a fully stressed system. It was nominated the 'BEST TESTED' award for April 2002.

Tom reviews Hercules Prophetview 720
Tomshardware.com reviewed the hercules prophetview 720 in a huge 14 lcd monitor compare test and falls in love with it.

"In conclusion, the design of this monitor is more appealing than its panel, but we've just fallen in love with it. Other monitors are faster. Some have a better contrast ratio. Several have wider viewing angles. Who cares, though? The ProphetView is a real sight for sore eyes. Maintaining a modicum of objectivity, we could also state that, while some of its rivals might be better in some areas, the ProphetView does have a very modern and solid panel, and it is faster than 45 or 50 ms monitors, as well. It makes a good compromise between response time, contrast ratio and price."
